Our Cinematography Course is a two-semester, hands-on program designed for students who want to learn the art of visual storytelling through filmmaking. Throughout the year, students will develop technical filmmaking skills while working alongside students in our Screen Acting Course to produce an original short film, OutLaws: A Retelling of the Ten Commandments. 
Each class session includes a time of devotion with age-appropriate discussion about Christ in the arts and how He calls us to steward our creativity, using our gifts to tell stories that inspire others and point people toward truth.

Program Structure 

Fall Semester (August–November 2026)
Foundations of Cinematography
Students begin by learning the core principles of filmmaking and visual storytelling while developing confidence behind the camera.
Topics include:
  • Camera operation and shot composition
  • Storyboarding and visual planning
  • Lighting techniques
  • Camera movement
  • Audio recording
  • Directing and working on a film set
  • Production roles and teamwork
Spring Semester (January–April 2027)
Production & Post-Production
Students apply their skills by serving as the cinematography crew for the production of OutLaws.
Working alongside the Screen Acting class, they will film, edit, and complete the final short film.
Students will gain experience in:
  • Operating cameras during production
  • Managing lighting and sound
  • Directing scenes
  • Continuity and shot management
  • Video editing
  • Color correction
  • Audio mixing
  • Preparing the film for its premiere

Your student’s tuition covers:
  •  Weekly 1.5-hour cinematography instruction
  •  Professional filmmaking equipment and production resources
  • Hands-on training in camera operation, lighting, audio, and editing
  • Collaboration with the Screen Acting class on a short film production
  • Participation in the final film premiere
  • Individual coaching and instructor feedback
  • Curriculum, production planning, and showcase preparation

 Materials Fee:
$100 annually
Covers costume materials, supplies, and production needs for the final showcase.
*Students enrolling in Screen Acting are expected to commit to the full academic year, including both 1st and 2nd semesters. This year-long structure is essential for skill development, ensemble building, and the rehearsal process leading to the final production. Participation in both semesters ensures that students are fully prepared to contribute to and perform in the culminating performance experience.

Please note:  Classes follow the Chandler Unified School District calendar and will not meet on holidays or during scheduled school breaks.
*Additional film days may be scheduled during the final two months leading up to the Presentation with advanced notice.
